Manchester City join Manchester United in race for Napoli defender Kim Min-jae

Premier League rivals Manchester City have joined Manchester United in the race for Napoli star Kim Min-jae, according to The Sun.

The Sky Blues are eyeing the signature of the South Korea international. Pep Guardiola likes the centre-back who joined the Partenopei in the summer of 2022 from Fenerbahce.

Since the 26-year-old’s move to Naples, his stock has risen tremendously. A number of high teams have the defender on their radar. Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool are also looking to acquire his services.

While the Serie A giants want to tie Min-jae down to a new deal, he fancies a move to the English top flight. The South Korean has been pivotal in the Italian outfit’s success in the current campaign.

Napoli are sitting at the top of the league table at the moment by a considerable margin. They are set to win their first Scudetto in over three decades.

The 26-year-old former Fenerbahce star has seamlessly replaced Kalidou Koulibaly in Luciano Spalletti’s team. The Senegalese signed for Chelsea last summer.

City have an abundance of talent at centre-back. Guardiola has John Stones, Ruben Dias, Nathan Ake and Manuel Akanji at his disposal. However, the Spaniard is willing to part ways with Aymeric Laporte.

On the other hand, United also have a stacked defence for now with Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane Erik ten Hag’s preferred duo. But as a result, Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof have fallen down the pecking order.

Therefore, it would not be a surprise to see our skipper and the Sweden international leave the Red Devils in the coming months. In that case, we will evidently need to bolster the backline. However, will our Manchester rivals take Min-jae off the table as an option for us? Only time will tell.
