Manchester United fear that Raphael Varane could be out for the rest of this season
According to Simon Mullock of the Mirror, Manchester United are fearful of the fact that French defender Raphael Varane could be out for the rest of this season.
Varane went off at half-time during the first leg of the Europa League quarter-final tie against Sevilla 10 days ago. He had caused more issues to his ankle that has been disturbing him of late.
Initially, it was reported that the Frenchman would be out for a few weeks, and a statement from Manchester United did not state that he will miss the remainder of the season.
With the fear that the former Real Madrid defender will miss all the games, there is an optimism that he might come back for the very last echelon of this season.
The 29-year-old has done well for United since arriving from the Spanish capital in the summer of 2021. However, injuries have plagued his progress time and again.
If we look at the numbers, Varane has missed 29 games and counting since the start of last season. If that is the trend for a centre-back, United might have to look at signing someone who has a better injury record and has qualities similar to that of the Frenchman.
Erik ten Hag’s men felt the absence of Varane and his partner Lisandro Martinez (who is out for the season) in the second leg of the Europa League tie against Sevilla. The chemistry between Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof and David de Gea was all over the place.

If United are to end this season strongly, the likes of Maguire and co. must step up their game because it looks unlikely that Varane would play much of a part, and Martinez is out anyway.
