Chelsea to make ‘final push’ to keep Mason Mount amidst Manchester United interest
Premier League rivals Chelsea are willing to make a ‘final push’ to keep Mason Mount at the club amidst interest from Manchester United, according to ESPN (h/t Mirror).
The 24-year-old is in the final year of his current contract with the Blues and is set to become a free agent at the end of the season. Up until now, the Stamford Bridge side have been unable to convince the midfielder to commit his future to the West London club.
However, Chelsea are set to hold renewed talks with Mount, with the hope of tying him down to a new deal. But if the England international does not re-sign, the Blues will look to cash in on him in the upcoming transfer window.
Apart from the Red Devils, in the English top flight, Manchester City and Liverpool have also been linked with acquiring the midfielder’s services next summer.
The 24-year-old has lost his place in the Stamford Bridge side’s starting lineup over the last few weeks. However, with Graham Potter gone and Frank Lampard in charge on an interim basis, it remains to be seen what the future holds for the playmaker.
Mount established himself in Chelsea’s starting lineup during the current gaffer’s first spell in the Blues’ dugout. The former Everton boss was the one who got the best out of the England international at the West London club.
United signed Casemiro and Christian Eriksen to bolster the middle of the park last summer. The two have been pivotal for Erik ten Hag in the current campaign.
However, in their absence, the Red Devils’ engine room leaves a lot to be desired. However, the Dutch manager has found a decent formula with Bruno Fernandes playing a deeper role with Bayern Munich loanee Marcel Sabitzer in the number 10 role.

It would evidently not hurt the Old Trafford side to have someone of Mount’s talent in the squad. However, will Chelsea be able to convince the 24-year-old to stay? Only time will tell.
