Marcus Rashford injury “does not look good” after Manchester United vs Everton

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has admitted that the injury sustained by Marcus Rashford in the match against Everton “does not look good”.

The 25-year-old started the second match running in the number nine position for the Red Devils on Saturday (8 April) at Goodison Park in the Premier League. It was the forward’s 350th appearance for the Manchester-based club.

Over the course of the 90 minutes, the Old Trafford side were clearly the dominant side. The England international had a couple of opportunities in the first half but was unable to beat his compatriot Jordan Pickford.

United continued to pile the pressure on Sean Dyche’s team in the first half. Finally, Scott McTominay gave the Red Devils the breakthrough in the 36th minute. The Scotland international has been in prolific form for club and country in recent weeks.

Subsequently, the Old Trafford side were on top of the Toffees for most of the second half as well. Then, at around the 70th-minute mark, Anthony Martial, who came on as a substitute in the 60th minute, was set up by Rashford.

Unfortunately, towards the end of the match, the England international was seen holding his groin and was replaced by Wout Weghorst with 10 minutes to go. Speaking to BT via transfer guru Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, Ten Hag blamed the congested schedule for the 25-year-old limping off the field.

“We have to wait, it doesn’t look well. Once again, it is due to the schedule… we’ve to protect our players. You cannot play 3 games in 6 days.”

With the World Cup in the middle of the season, the 2022/23 campaign has seen certain players play a lot of minutes. Rashford was one of the players who travelled to Qatar with Gareth Southgate’s team. He put in some impressive cameos in the prestigious tournament.

Since coming back from the Middle East, the 25-year-old has been in inspiring form. The England international has shouldered the burden of United’s attack.

Unfortunately, with his injury, our only consistent threat in front of goal has been sidelined, that too in the business end of the season. It remains to be seen how long the issue will keep the academy graduate out of action.
