Manchester United are interested in a summer move for Juventus and former Arsenal shot-stopper Wojciech Szczesny, according to Calciomercatoweb (h/t Manchester Evening News).

The Red Devils are ‘hoping’ to acquire the 32-year-old’s services in the upcoming transfer window. At the end of the season, the Poland international is potentially eyeing a return to the Premier League.

At the moment, David de Gea is the number one at the Old Trafford side. However, there is a ton of speculation regarding his future. The Spaniard’s current contract with the Manchester-based club is set to expire at the conclusion of the current campaign.

United are working on trying to agree new terms with the 32-year-old. However, there has been no breakthrough yet regarding the situation. As a result, the club are eyeing alternatives.

Szczesny made his way to Juventus in the summer of 2017. In recent years, the Polish national has been the first choice in between the sticks for the Bianconeri. However, his existing deal is going to come to an end in the summer of 2024.

Previously, the 32-year-old spent several years being the main man at Arsenal. However, after a loan spell with Roma, Juventus came calling for the shot-stopper’s services.

De Gea has been impressive for United since last season. The arrival of Erik ten Hag has seen the Spaniard maintain his position in the pecking order.

However, that is seemingly down to the fact that the Dutch manager has Tom Heaton and Jack Butland as the backups at his disposal. With all due respect to the two English nationals, they are lucky to be at a club like the Old Trafford side.

Therefore, in case the former Atletico Madrid star leaves, we will evidently need to bolster the goalkeeping department. However, it does not seem prudent to hedge our bets on Szczesny, considering the Polan international’s age.
