Erik ten Hag is keen to retain key Manchester United duo with expiring contracts

Erik ten Hag wants Marcus Rashford and David de Gea to stay at Manchester United

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has expressed his intention to keep a hold of Marcus Rashford and David de Gea, whose contracts are set to expire soon.

The Spanish shot-stopper is set to become a free agent at the end of the season as things stand. On the other hand, the England international’s existing deal with the Red Devils will expire in the summer of 2024 (transfermarkt).

However, negotiations are ongoing

with both Rashford and De Gea over new terms. Speaking to the media via transfer guru Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, Ten Hag wants the two to stay at the Old Trafford side.

“Yeah, true. I want them to stay.”

Rashford has been in electric form in the current campaign. The 25-year-old is United’s leading goalscorer in the current campaign.

The England international has shouldered the burden of the Red Devils’ attack this season. He has made 44 appearances in all competitions for the Old Trafford side, scoring 27 goals and providing nine assists.

Therefore, it would be wise for the Manchester-based club to secure the forward’s future as soon as possible. He is too valuable an asset for us to lose.

As for De Gea, the shot-stopper has been the number one over the last two seasons. The Spaniard has been impressive with his saves. However, the 32-year-old leaves a lot to be desired with the ball at his feet.

Nonetheless, the former Atletico Madrid star is the best option we have at our disposal. Tom Heaton and Jack Butland are in the squad as backups for the Dutch manager to count on.

With Ten Hag keen on Rashford and De Gea staying, United should do everything in their power to fulfil the gaffer’s wishes. However, it remains to be seen whether the Red Devils will be able to tie the two down to new contracts in the coming months.
