Marcel Sabitzer confident of the quality Manchester United have to win at Anfield
Speaking to the club media, Manchester United midfielder Marcel Sabitzer is confident in the quality the team has to beat Liverpool at Anfield.
United face Liverpool in a crunch Premier League game for both sides. While the Red Devils are looking to win and stay alive in the title race, the home side is aiming to catch Tottenham Hotspur in the fourth spot.
Erik ten Hag announced his arrival as a United boss by beating Jurgen Klopp’s team at Old Trafford back in August. But, things will be different this time around at Anfield, a place where Liverpool generally do well irrespective of their current form.
But, Sabitzer believes the team has the quality to win at one of the iconic grounds in European football. Here’s what the 28-year-old said (h/t Manchester United website):
“I’ve never played at Anfield [in front of fans] so I’m looking forward to it. I know it’s a massive game for United, for the fans, for the club. We have to be ready and focused on Sunday. We want to win this game.
“That’s it, there is a gap now [between the two teams] but we have to win this game and I think we have the strength and the quality to beat them at Anfield.”
It is a confident statement from a player who has done well since arriving on loan from Bayern Munich. That’s the sort of self-belief ten Hag has instilled in the players, that can be used to good effect in tough games like this.
While Liverpool have Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez in good form, United have Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes to cause havoc to the opposition back-line.
If ten Hag starts Rashford on the left, it would be an interesting battle against Trent Alexander-Arnold, who likes to push forward and leave the space behind. Can United afford to leave their star man forward and not track Trent in order to use the space on the counter? It will depend on how well they defend.

We also know that Rashford does not need many chances to score a goal these days. Let’s hope he gets at least a couple of them to break his hoodoo of not scoring at Anfield before.
