Manchester United youngster Alejandro Garnacho included in Argentina squad for next international break
Lionel Scaloni has called up Manchester United youngster Alejandro Garnacho to the Argentina national team squad for the upcoming international break, via Manchester Evening News.
La Albiceleste will take on Panama on 23 March and face Curacao on 28 March in friendly fixtures. The Red Devils’ 18-year-old star has been named in the South American team’s 35-man squad.
Argentina won the 2022 World Cup. They lifted the prestigious trophy after over three decades. Lionel Scaloni’s team went on a nail-biting run in the tournament as they beat France in the final on penalty shootouts.
Garnacho missed out on a call-up to the squad that travelled to Qatar. The youngster has only recently broken onto the scene at the Old Trafford side.
The 18-year-old signed for United in the summer of 2020 from Atletico Madrid. Subsequently, he spent time in the Red Devils’ youth sides, winning the FA Youth Cup last season.
At the start of the current campaign, the Argentine was part of the senior squad, but Erik ten Hag did not put much faith in him. However, after a few impressive displays in the Europa League, the forward made his way into the Dutch manager’s plans.
Subsequently, Garnacho put in some clutch displays and became someone the gaffer now relies upon. In the Premier League, the 18-year-old scored a stoppage-time winner against Fulham. Subsequently, he has been handy on the bench against the likes of Manchester City and Barcelona in the UEL.
In the fifth-round FA Cup tie versus West Ham United, the Argentine started and scored a 90th-minute winner. In the end, we qualified for the quarter-finals with a 3-1 victory.
