Manchester City ‘step up’ interest in Arsenal and Manchester United target Declan Rice
Premier League rivals Manchester City are set to ‘step up’ their interest in signing Arsenal and Manchester United target Declan Rice, according to TeamTalk (h/t Express).
The West Ham United captain is being eyed by a number of clubs in the English top flight, including the Sky Blues. Pep Guardiola is interested in adding the midfielder to his ranks.
Mikel Arteta’s team and the Red Devils have identified the England international as an important part of their plans for the upcoming transfer window. But now, the Cityzens are ‘seriously considering’ building their engine room around the 24-year-old.
The Gunners have been after a midfielder for some time now. Currently, Thomas Partey and Granit Xhaka have been the first-choice duo in the North London side’s starting lineup. However, the Ghana international has struggled with injuries.
Rice is valued at £100 million by the Hammers. The England international has been a key player for the Irons over the years. But David Moyes’ team are in a relegation battle at the moment.
The 24-year-old made his way through the youth ranks at West Ham, having joined from Chelsea. Subsequently, the midfielder has now established himself as one of the best players in the PL.
Rice has also been a regular member of the Three Lions’ XI over the last few major tournaments. The 24-year-old started in every game for Gareth Southgate’s team in the 2022 World Cup.
In the summer of 2022, United bolstered their ranks with the addition of Casemiro. The Brazil international has cemented his place in the number six position in the Red Devils’ starting lineup.

Rice is a quality midfielder. However, the England international is seemingly a similar type of player as the former Real Madrid star. Therefore, instead of splashing the cash of the 24-year-old, it would be wise to go after a more creative player.
