Graham Potter not privy to contract talks between Mason Mount and Chelsea amidst Manchester United links
Chelsea manager Graham Potter has revealed that he is not privy to the contract talks between the Blues and Mason Mount, who has been linked with Manchester United.
The 24-year-old’s existing deal with the Stamford Bridge side will expire in the summer of 2024 (transfermarkt). However, it remains to be seen whether the midfielder will extend his stay at the West London club.
As a result, a number of clubs, including the Red Devils, are interested in the England international. However, it is Premier League rivals Liverpool who are leading the race to acquire his services.
Speaking to the media via Manchester Evening News, Potter admitted that Mount was suffering, with Chelsea going through a rough period. While the former Brighton & Hove Albion head coach has liked working with the midfielder, he has no idea about the contract talks.
“Mason, for us, has been great to work with. He has been top. He is suffering like the rest of us because we want to do better, we want better results. But in terms of the contract, that is between him and the club.”
The 24-year-old made his way through the youth ranks at the Blues. In the 2019/20 season, Frank Lampard gave the England international the opportunity in the Stamford Bridge side’s first team.
Since then, Mount has established himself in the West London club’s team. Over the last few years, the midfielder has been one of their best players.
However, in the current campaign, the 24-year-old has been underwhelming. Potter has also dropped the England international from the starting lineup in the last few fixtures.
At United, Casemiro and Christian Eriksen have made a difference in the middle of the park since signing in the summer of 2022. However, the Red Devils seemingly lack depth in the engine room.

Therefore, we could evidently do with more quality in the midfield. Mount is a talented player. If we are able to get the 24-year-old for a cut price, he could be a wise option to pursue.
