Jason Cundy feels Manchester United “nowhere near” Arsenal and Manchester City
Former Chelsea defender Jason Cundy feels Manchester United are “nowhere near” Arsenal and Manchester City after draw against Leeds United.
The Red Devils welcomed the West Yorkshire-based club on Wednesday (8 February). Wilfried Gnonto and a Raphael Varane own goal gave the Peacocks a two-goal advantage. Thankfully, the Old Trafford side managed to make a comeback and salvage a point.
Speaking on talkSPORT (h/t Metro) after the 2-2 draw, Cundy, who also played for Tottenham Hotspur, thought United would close the gap at the top. However, the ex-defender was left disappointed with the Red Devils’ display.
“That’s not a good result for Manchester United – that’s a bad result. We all expected United to go there in front of the crowd and close the gap on Man City and Arsenal.
“Are they in the tile race? Based on what I’ve seen tonight, they’re nowhere near Arsenal and Man City. They’re not.”
The Old Trafford side had the chance to go level on points with the Sky Blues with a win over Leeds. However, the draw has come as a setback for us.
Both the Gunners and Pep Guardiola’s team were handed losses recently. Subsequently, United had the opportunity to make their way back into the mic for the Premier League title.
However, the West Yorkshire-based club were on hand to snatch two points from us. Jesse Marsch was also not in the dugout, having been sacked prior to the game.
Erik ten Hag has managed to turn things around in a short span of time in Manchester. After losses in the first two matches of the campaign, the Dutch manager has done well to establish us in the top-four race.
Both Mikel Arteta and Guardiola have been at their respective clubs for a long time. They have had many ups and downs during their spells. Therefore, it is only fair for Ten Hag to be judged after some time in the Red Devils’ dugout.

For now, United are on a relatively good trajectory. We have the opportunity to get our hands on some silverware as well later this month. Hopefully, the gaffer is able to bring more consistency to the team going forward.
