Erik ten Hag feels Manchester United star Marcus Rashford can score from any position in forward line

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag feels Marcus Rashford can score from any position in the forward line after criticism of playing the 25-year-old on the right wing.

The England international started on the right-hand side of the attack against Leeds United on Wednesday (8 February) for the Red Devils. Wout Weghorst played through the middle, while Alejandro Garnacho was on the left in the front three.

However, Rashford struggled to make an impact for most of the fixture. Subsequently, the Old Trafford side’s academy graduate was moved to the number nine position after the Holland international’s substitution at the hour mark.

After the 2-2 draw, it was suggested the 25-year-old finds it difficult on the right wing. However, speaking via the Metro, Ten Hag was adamant about the England international being effective in every position.

“Yeah. Marcus Rashford is scoring from everywhere. It doesn’t matter if it’s from the right, in the centre or over on the left. He’s scoring from everywhere and today he showed it again.”

While Rashford has scored while playing in every position in the forward line, he seems to have a hard time influencing the game as much when played on the right-hand side.

Against the Peacocks, Man United were two goals down by the opening minutes of the second half. The 25-year-old, alongside other members of the Red Devils’ attack, were underwhelming until the hour mark.

After the England international’s change in position, he immediately found the back of the net. Then, at the 70th-minute mark, Jadon Sancho got the equaliser for the Old Trafford side.

On a few occasions, Ten Hag has also swapped wings in matches. Whenever Rashford has been on the right, he has not looked comfortable.

The 25-year-old is thriving through the middle and on the left. Since the England international has been our main outlet up front, it would be wise of the gaffer to play the forward in his best position regardless of the personnel.
