Manchester United target and Bayern Munich defender Benjamin Pavard to be available for £26.8 million next summer

Bayern Munich star Benjamin Pavard, who is being targeted by Manchester United, will be available for £26.8 million in the upcoming transfer window, according to Sport 1 (h/t The Sun).

The defender’s current contract with the Bavarians expires in the summer of 2024. As a result, the Bundesliga giants could part ways with the France 2018 World Cup winner for a cut price.

Apart from the Red Devils, Premier League rivals Chelsea are also interested in Pavard. European giants Barcelona are also eyeing a move for the 26-year-old. The Blaugrana are his preferred destination.

In January, Bayern were open to parting ways with the defender. Inter Milan were looking to acquire the France international’s services late last month, but a move failed to materialise.

Pavard signed for Bayern in the summer of 2019 from VfB Stuttgart. Over the years, the defender has seen his influence at the Allianz Arena side dwindle.

The France international has mostly played as a right-back for the German outfit but is also capable of playing as a centre-back. However, now, the Bundesliga giants have Joao Cancelo at their disposal, who left Manchester City in January.

At the moment, Diogo Dalot and Aaron Wan-Bissaka are the two options at Erik ten Hag’s disposal for the right-hand side of the defence. However, the England U21 international has lost his place in the starting lineup.

Also, Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane form the preferred centre-back partnership in the backline. As a result, Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof have also been bit-part players under the Dutch manager.

It would not be a surprise to see the two centre-backs and Wan-Bissaka evaluate their future next summer. Therefore, Pavard is a versatile option United should have their eyes on to bolster the squad.
