Erik ten Hag has strong expectations from Bayern Munich loanee Marcel Sabitzer at Manchester United
Manchester United has strong expectations from Marcel Sabitzer, who is on loan at the Old Trafford side until the end of the season from Bayern Munich.
The Austria international signed for the Red Devils on deadline day in January. With Christian Eriksen out with an injury for a considerable period after picking up a knock against Reading in the fourth round of the FA Cup, a short-term replacement was evidently required.
To that end, the Manchester-based club got the 28-year-old on a temporary move from the Bavarians. The former RB Leipzig midfielder has showcased glimpses of his talent over the years in Germany.
Speaking to the media via the Mirror, Ten Hag expressed his delight at having acquired Sabitzer’s services. The Dutch manager revealed that he had been monitoring the Austrian for some time now.
“I know the player already a long time from [RB] Salzburg. He performed fantastically, so I expect that he will do the same here.
“I think he has a great attitude; he is at the right age, and I am sure this opportunity will motivate him greatly and he will perform strongly for us.”
Before making his name in Germany, the 28-year-old plied his trade at Red Bull Salzburg. After making a splash in his home country, the midfielder got a move to Leipzig in the Bundesliga.
Subsequently, after Julian Nagelsmann’s appointment at Bayern, Sabitzer followed the German coach to the Allianz Arena side in 2021. However, the 28-year-old has failed to cement his place in the Bavraians’ starting lineup.

The Austrian has failed to replicate the form he showed in Saxony. In the current campaign, the midfielder was handed just seven starts in the league.
United currently have an injury crisis in the middle of the park. Casemiro and Fred were the only options available to Erik ten Hag before Sabitzer’s arrival.
