Erik ten Hag ‘blocked’ Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof loan exit to Eintracht Frankfurt in January
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag ‘blocked’ Victor Lindelof from joining Eintracht Frankfurt late in the previous transfer window, according to German outlet Bild (h/t Manchester Evening News).
The Bundesliga outfit were looking to take the Sweden international on loan in January. However, the Dutch manager was not willing to part ways with the defender.
In the current campaign, the 28-year-old has seen his game time dwindle drastically. The gaffer has preferred other options ahead of the centre-back.
Lindelof signed for the Red Devils in the summer of 2017 from SL Benfica. After settling in the Premier League during his debut season, the Swedish national became a regular member of the Old Trafford side’s starting lineup.
However, over the years, the 28-year-old has had mixed performances at United. The centre-back has not instilled confidence in many with his displays season after season.
With Lisandro Martinez’s signing last summer, Lindelof has fallen down the pecking order. The Argentine defender has been paired with Raphael Varane in the backline as the Swedish national has had to bide his time on the bench.
Apart from the 28-year-old, Harry Maguire is also someone the gaffer has at his disposal. Our captain has also lost his influence in the team. The England international has struggled to get back into the Dutch manager’s good graces.
On a few occasions, Ten Hag has also opted to play Luke Shaw as a centre-back. The 27-year-old has looked solid in the unorthodox position.
