Diogo Dalot back in Manchester United training after three-week injury lay-off

Manchester United star Diogo Dalot is back in training after being on the sidelines for three weeks due to an injury. The right-back picked up a knock during the Red Devils’ Carabao Cup quarter-final fixture against Charlton Athletic.

Since the 2022 World Cup, the 23-year-old has struggled to stay fit. However, the Portugal international could return as the Old Trafford side will take on Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Saturday (4 February).

Speaking to the media via Manchester Evening News, Dalot’s compatriot Bruno Fernandes revealed that the right-back was back in the mix. The 28-year-old is glad to have his fellow countrymen to count on.

“Diogo is training also with us and will probably be fully fit really soon and that is really good because the manager has more options.”

The 23-year-old was ever-present in the starting lineup during the first half of the season. However, in the former FC Porto star’s absence, Aaron Wan-Bissaka has been called upon.

Thankfully, the England U21 international has deputised admirably at right-back. The 25-year-old has put in some decent displays over the last few weeks and has gotten himself back into contention for a starting spot.

Wan-Bissaka had been United’s first choice over the years. However, after Ralf Rangnicks replaced Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the Old Trafford side’s dugout, the former Crystal Palace star’s fortunes changed.

The 25-year-old has been pipped by Dalot in the pecking order this season. Under the Dutch manager, the Portuguese has been one of the most important players.

However, we have been lucky not to feel the 23-year-old’s absence in recent matches. Nonetheless, the right-back’s return to full fitness will evidently be a big boost for the team.
