Manchester United youngster Charlie Savage is ‘set to join’ Forest Green Rovers on loan in the ongoing transfer window, according to Manchester Evening News.

The Red Devils were looking to secure a temporary move away for the 19-year-old. Now, he is close to completing a switch to the League One outfit for the remainder of the campaign.

While a deal between the two parties is yet to be finalised, it is expected to go through before deadline day. Hopefully, the Wales U21 international will be able to gain some valuable first-team action with the Vegans.

Savage has made his way through the youth ranks at the Old Trafford side. The 19-year-old made his debut for the Manchester-based club against BSC Young Boys in the Champions League last season.

The young midfielder came on as a substitute in the final minutes of the group-stage fixture against the Swiss outfit at Old Trafford. The game ended in a 1-1 draw.

Since then, the Welsh national has not featured for United. However, he did impress many during pre-season under Erik ten Hag.

Along with Zidane Iqbal, Savage caught a lot of people’s attention with his performances during the first friendlies that the Dutch manager took charge of. The 19-year-old also played against Cadiz and Real Betis as the Red Devils went to Spain during the World Cup break.

The Old Trafford side currently have two quality stars, Casemiro and Christian Eriksen, performing well in the middle of the park. The Brazil and Denmark internationals have formed a brilliant partnership in the engine room.

Currently, getting regular game time at United seems difficult for Savage. Therefore, it is wise to send him out on loan. But are Forest Green the right fit for the 19-year-old, considering they are currently bottom of the league and are struggling? Only time will tell.
