Dean Saunders says Manchester United should not be playing players they ‘tried to sell six times’

Dean Saunders ripped into Manchester United as he sat down to have a conversation with talkSPORT. The Welsh manager was not happy with Erik ten Hag for playing players he’s tried to sell in the past. Let’s have a closer look at what he had to say. (h/t talksport)

“I look at some of them players at Man United who are still there, I mean, you’re bringing Harry Maguire on, a sub. He’s tried to sell him six times, he’s tried to sell [Aaron] Wan-Bissaka, the players know, they should have cleared the decks a long time ago.”

Saunders also added that you never really know what you’re going to get from the Manchester United squad. He’s not wrong, week in and week out we see the team go from playing at high levels to being dominated by teams like Brentford who are fighting to stay out of the relegation zone.

Manchester United did not dominate even 10 minutes of the Brentford game.

In the case of Harry Maguire, even though the team has tried to sell him multiple times, the English defender always gives it his all. However, the same cannot be said for the other players on that team.

Their very own talent, Marcus Rashford often looks like he’s uninterested in the game. When their biggest stars act that way towards the team, there’s not a lot that Erik ten Hag can expect from the other players.

Manchester United are in desperate need of a big cultural shift. The players who wear the Red don’t seem to know what it stands for, this is a complaint that even Gary Neville and Roy Keane have voiced in the past.

However, even a cultural shift might not be enough. Sir Jim Ratcliffe might have to dig into his pockets and pay for new players. More and more of Erik ten Hag‘s players seem to be mentally checking out.

Changes are on the horizon for Manchester United and the team needs to start with clearing the deck. Out with the old and in with the new should be a motto that INEOS uses to navigate the summer transfer window.
