Marcus Rashford praises Manchester United substitute Alejandro Garnacho after Manchester City comeback
Manchester United star Marcus Rashford has praised Alejandro Garnacho for the impact he had off the bench in the comeback win against Manchester City.
The Red Devils welcomed the Sky Blues to the Theatre of Dreams on Saturday (14 January) in the Premier League. The Argentine youngster assisted the England international for the goal that gave the Old Trafford side the win.
Speaking after the 2-1 victory to BT Sport (h/t Express), Rashford has expressed delight over Garnacho’s attitude to be a game-changer as a substitute. The 25-year-old is excited about getting the three points over our bitter rivals.
“We’ve got players like Garnacho who are young, hungry and ready to come on and make a difference, anything is possible. We’re very pleased to come back, get the three points and now it’s about moving on to the next game.”
The first half of the game saw a robust and well-organised United side that kept Pep Guardiola’s attackers at bay. The England international had a couple of opportunities, but he could not capitalise on them.
However, the second half saw City largely keeping a hold of the possession. The Cityzens looked more threatening as the game went on.
Subsequently, Guardiola brought on Jack Grealish, who broke the deadlock at around the hour mark. The Red Devils struggled to create a lot of chances.
Erik ten Hag looked towards the bench and replaced Christian Eriksen with Garnacho in the 72nd minute. The 18-year-old looked lively on the ball. The Argentine brought more penetration to our attacks.
Then, in the 78th minute, Bruno Fernandes’ equaliser spurred us on. Just a few minutes later, Garnacho got the ball out wide and crossed it into the box for Rashford to poach a goal.
