Inter Milan set £50m asking price for the Netherlands star Denzel Dumfries amidst Manchester United links

Manchester United have to part ways with £50 million to land the signature of the Netherlands and Inter Milan star Denzel Dumfries, according to Calciomercato (h/t Manchester Evening News).

The Serie A outfit have set their asking price for the 26-year-old and would consider it in instalments, with a £43 million initial fee and another £8.6 million in add-ons.

Along with the Red Devils, Premier League rivals Chelsea are also interested in the defender. The Blues currently have Reece James as the first-choice right-back in the team. The England international has been one of the best full-backs over the last few years.

However, injuries have been an issue for the 22-year-old at the Stamford Bridge side. Graham Potter can also call upon Cesar Azpilicueta. But the veteran is in the twilight of his career.

As for United, Diogo Dalot has been a regular fixture on the right-hand side of the defence under Erik ten Hag. The Portugal international has taken his game to the next level this season.

However, the 23-year-old has started in most of the games for the Old Trafford side. The Dutch manager does not seem to trust Aaron Wan-Bissaka. He has been handed just four minutes of competitive action by the gaffer in the current campaign.

Dumfries joined Inter in the summer of 2021 from PSV Eindhoven. The 26-year-old has been a regular under Simone Inzaghi in Milan. He mostly plays a bit further up in the wing-back role for the Serie A outfit.

The Holland international has been impressive with the Netherlands at the World Cup. In the round of 16 against the United States, the right-back scored a goal and provided an assist as Louis van Gaal’s team beat the Stars and Stripes 3-1.

United evidently need to add depth to the right-back spot. Dalot cannot play every minute for the rest of the season. Thus, it remains to be seen whether the club will make a move for Dumfries.
