Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo has offered himself to Real Madrid, but Los Blancos are not interested in re-signing their former forward. The Portuguese icon looks set to leave the Red Devils in the coming months after his controversial interview with Piers Morgan,
According to Sport (h/t Mirror), the 37-year-old has opened the door for a return to the Spanish capital. The five-time Ballon d’Or winner spent nine successful seasons with the European champions prior to his Juventus move.
Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes is trying to engineer the forward’s exit from the Old Trafford side. However, Madrid have been ruled out as a potential destination. Los Blancos are not expected to make a move for their former superstar, as per Marca.
During his stint in the Spanish Capital, the 37-year-old won four Champions League titles and two La Liga trophies, amongst other things. He also added to his Ballon d’Or awards, winning four while at the Santiago Bernabeu side.
However, in the summer of 2018, the Portugal international left Madrid for Turin. At Juventus, the forward spent three years before making his way back to Manchester.
Ronaldo’s homecoming was met with a lot of fanfare. Most supporters had high expectations for the 2021/22 campaign. But while the Portuguese star had a relatively successful season, United were overall underwhelming.
We failed to challenge for any silverware. And the Red Devils also missed out on a top-four berth, finishing sixth in the Premier League.
Thankfully, the Old Trafford side have shown encouraging signs under Erik ten Hag. After a shaky start to his reign in Manchester, the Dutch manager has managed to turn things around.
