Atletico Madrid star Matheus Cunha is ‘open to leaving’ the La Liga outfit amidst interest from Manchester United, according to Spanish newspaper Marca via Man Utd News (h/t Manchester Evening News).

The Brazilian was being linked with a move to the Red Devils in the recent transfer window. And the Old Trafford side could once again look to bring the 23-year-old to Manchester.

Cunha wants to leave Los Rojiblancos in January. And the Premier League is a destination the Brazilian is keen on.

The 23-year-old moved to Germany in 2018 and joined RB Leipzig. He switched sides and moved to Hertha BSC in January 2020. And in the summer of 2021, the forward joined Atletico.

In Spain, Cunha has mostly been a squad player. He has been unable to cement a place in Diego Simeone’s starting lineup. The 23-year-old came off the bench a majority of times in the previous campaign.

This season as well, the centre-forward has struggled to break into the Argentine manager’s plans at Atletico. The Brazilian has started just twice for Los Rojiblancos in all competitions.

United have relied on Marcus Rashford to get them goals in the current campaign. The 25-year-old has been preferred by Erik ten Hag in the number nine position in the current campaign.

However, the Dutch manager has not been able to rely on any other strikers. Anthony Martial has struggled to remain fit for most of this term. On the other hand, Cristiano Ronaldo seems to be missing his shooting boots in the 2022/23 season.

Thus, most fans want the club to bolster the forward line. However, Cunha does not seem to be the solution for our attacking woes. The Brazilian has not demonstrated to be a clinical goalscorer over the years. Thus, United should look at other options.
