Manchester United rekindle interest in Joao Felix ahead of January transfer window
Manchester United have revived their interest in Atletico Madrid forward Joao Felix ahead of the January transfer window, according to Cadena SER (h/t Manchester Evening News).
The Red Devils have been linked with a move for the 22-year-old on several instances in the past. And the Portugal international is still on the Old Trafford side’s radar.
Los Rojiblancos have failed to get past the group stages in the Champions League. The Spanish outfit even missed out on a place in the Europa League. And Diego Simeone’s team could be forced to sell the former SL Benfica star in the upcoming winter or summer windows.
Felix has failed to hit the heights many Atletico fans expected from him. In Portugal, the 22-year-old was one of the best prospects in world football. However, his development in Spain has stagnated.
Over the years in Madrid, the Portuguese star has failed to cement his place in the Argentine gaffer’s plans. And in the current campaign, the forward has been a bit-part player for Los Rojiblancos.
Felix started the season on an encouraging note. He assisted three goals in the opening game of the 2022/23 campaign against Getafe in La Liga. Unfortunately, the Portuguese star has been unable to find consistency.
And the Portugal international has lost his place in Simeone’s starting lineup in recent weeks. Thus, the 22-year-old has found himself on the bench in Atletico’s crunch games in the Champions League.
United have a stacked frontline at the moment. Marcus Rashford, Antony, Jadon Sancho, Anthony Martial, Cristiano Ronaldo, Alejandro Garnacho and Anthony Elanga are all options for Erik ten Hag.
