Club News: Martin Keown praises Manchester United midfielder Casemiro
Former Arsenal defender Martin Keown was full of praise for Manchester United midfielder Casemiro after his impressive performance against Chelsea last time out.
The 30-year-old was the star of the show as his header in injury time helped his side finish the game 1-1 and salvage a point. But apart from that, the former Real Madrid man was simply outstanding throughout the game.
Now, former Gooner player Keown, while speaking on BBC Match of the Day (h/t Daily Mail) praised the Brazilian and described him as ‘absolute class’.
“Absolute class. I think he’s a player they’ve been missing for years. Conducts everything in that midfield. The real defensive brain of the team, and he can pass as well. ‘He’s always in the right place for his team. When they need him most he comes to the fore, takes responsibility, That is a wonderful header, his first goal for United. Look what it means to him.”
Casemiro moved to the Manchester-based club this summer from Los Blancos in a deal worth £70 million. The midfielder had to wait to establish himself in the team but has now started the last six games in all competitions.
He has become a fan favourite very quickly and looks to be a trusted player by Erik ten Hag. For a long time, United has been without a holding midfielder, but now it looks like they have got one of the best in their squad.
The Brazilian along with Bruno Fernandes and Christian Eriksen has become a trio to fear and the 30-year-old’s performance against the Blues last Saturday made his price tag look like a bargain.
United will now play host to Sheriff this Thursday for their Europa League fixture. Casemiro is more than likely to start the game, while fans will hope that the midfielder gets on the scoresheet again.
