Cristiano Ronaldo sends message after being overlooked by Manchester United from Chelsea encounter
Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo has written a message after the Red Devils dropped him from the squad set to face Chelsea. The Old Trafford side decided to take disciplinary action against the Portugal international after he opted to leave before full-time against Tottenham Hotspur.
When asked about the incident, Erik ten Hag insisted he would “deal” with the matter. And on Thursday (20 October), United confirmed the 37-year-old would not take part in the game against the Blues at Stamford Bridge on Saturday (22 October).
The Red Devils’ statement on Ronaldo read:
“Cristiano Ronaldo will not be part of the Manchester United squad for this Saturday’s Premier League game against Chelsea.
“The rest of the squad is fully focused on preparing for that fixture.”
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner is not enjoying the best of seasons in Manchester under the new gaffer. The former Ajax head coach has opted to play other players ahead of the Portuguese in the number nine position.
In the 2022/23 campaign, the 37-year-old has started just twice for the Old Trafford side in the Premier League. In 12 appearances in all competitions, the forward has scored two goals and provided one assist.
While Ronaldo has had a frustrating few weeks at United, his actions against Tottenham were condemned by fans. And following the Red Devils dropping him, the Portuguese has addressed the situation on his Instagram.
Ronaldo claims the “heat of the moment” got to him. The 37-year-old has not got a regular run in the starting lineup in the current campaign. Ten Hag has opted to play Marcus Rashford up top in a majority of the fixtures.
The England international has done well for the team. While fans feel the 24-year-old has not been clinical enough, the forward has brought a threat to the side with his pace.
