Lisandro Martinez praises Fred for match-winning display against Tottenham
Speaking in an interview with MUTV as quoted by Manchester Evening News, Lisandro Martinez has singled out Manchester United midfielder Fred for his exceptional performance against Tottenham Hotspur last night.
After being criticised a lot for his performances in a Man United shirt, yesterday would have been a great feeling for the Brazilian midfielder. He scored the first goal in the Red Devils’ impressive performance against Tottenham Hotspur.
It was a performance in stark contrast to the kind of display that he put against Newcastle United over the weekend. It was a surprise that Ten hag chose to start the Brazilian yesterday but the midfielder repaid his manager’s faith.
Man United continued their impressive run under Erik ten Hag, beating yet another big team last night. It was on the back of wins against Liverpool and Arsenal and it looks like the Red Devils are heading in the right direction.
Last night’s performance against Tottenham was very close to the kind of levels we desire to see under the Dutch tactician with the entire Manchester United team showing a lot of intensity and heart in the performance.
Speaking about the game, Martinez praised the defence for the rigid performance but singled out Fred for praise.
“The goal will come and that’s it, in the second half we scored and I’m also really happy for Fred because he also deserves it, he trains very hard and he deserves this moment.”
The win means that ten Hag’s team now find themselves fifth in the table just outside the Champions League spots. It’s quite a comeback for the kind of performances they had at the start of the season and the Dutch coach will be happy.
However, the former Ajax manager will know for sure that he still has a lot of work to do with the team and will want to continue in a similar vein. The Red Devils will have to keep the pressure on those who are above them and try and break into the top four.
