Transfer News: Leeds United set to beat Manchester United in the race for Cody Gakpo
In what will come as bitter news to Manchester United fans, rivals Leeds United are set to beat them in the race for Cody Gakpo.
The Dutch winger was a target for both clubs this summer, however, none could secure a deal for the 23-year-old during the summer. United dropped out of the running and instead pursued a deal for Antony.
Now, according to the Mirror, The Whites have agreed to personal terms with the Dutch international and are now in talks with PSV Eindhoven about their £30 million valuation of the player.
Gakpo has been in exceptional form this season. The 23-year-old has found the back of the net 12 times and has assisted 10 times in 15 games for the Dutch club in all competitions.
Ten Hag is believed to still want the winger at the club, but has accepted a deal in January is very unlikely to happen. However, Antony too has been a very good signing for the club so far.
He has scored two goals in two Premier League games for the Red Devils and will hope to continue that streak when his side plays Everton this Sunday (October 9).
While Gakpo would have made a fantastic addition to the squad, Ten Hag has some good options on his bench too. Facundo Pellistri and Alejandro Garnacho have huge potential in them and the manager can help them realise it.

This doesn’t, however, overshadow the fact that 37-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo could soon need replacing. The Portuguese legend is already being constantly overlooked by Ten Hag in league games and we can use a young, quality centre-forward to lead the line in the coming years.
