Giuseppe Bergomi urges Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic to snub Manchester United for Manchester City
Italian legend Giuseppe Bergomi has urged Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic to snub Manchester United for Manchester City if the opportunity arises. The former Inter Milan defender feels the Serie A star would thrive with the Sky Blues.
Milinkovic Savic has been linked with a move to the Old Trafford side over the years. However, a transfer has never materialised between the two parties.
But while speculations mount every summer, the Serbian has been told to avoid United. Speaking to LazioNews24 (h/t Manchester Evening News), Bergomi, who spent his entire career with the Nerazzurri, feels the 27-year-old should join City.
“But why don’t the top clubs come to take him (Milinkovic-Savic)? That’s what I’m wondering.
“He has to choose the right team for his qualities. If you send him to Manchester United it’s not good – if he goes to City he does like De Bruyne.”
Milinkovic-Savic joined Lazio in 2015. And since then, the Serbian has been one of the best players for the Biancocelesti. The 27-year-old is known to have an eye for goal from the middle of the park.
Considering his talent, fans feel Milinkovic-Savic should be at a relatively bigger club. The midfielder evidently has all the credentials to play for the biggest sides in Europe.
City are currently one of the best teams in the world. The Sky Blues put on a show against United in the Manchester derby. And their Belgian playmaker controlled the engine room.
De Bruyne is in fine form this season. The 31-year-old provided a brilliant assist to Erling Haaland for his brace. And the Belgian was pivotal as the Old Trafford side lost 6-3 at the Etihad Stadium.
However, City have a stacked engine room. Rodri, Ilkay Gundogan and Bernardo Silva are the other options at Pep Guardiola’s disposal.
