Steve McManaman astonished by the price tag of Manchester United target and Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham
Manchester United have been told by Steve McManaman that £130 million is a “ridiculous amount” for Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham. The 19-year-old has been linked with the Red Devils.
Bellingham’s stock has risen over the years. After his move to BVB from Birmingham City in 2020, the 19-year-old has developed into one of the best players in Germany. That has meant a lot of interest in the England international, including from Liverpool.
Speaking to horseracing.com (h/t Metro), McManaman has been astonished by the amount that has been placed in Bellingham’s head. The 50-year-old also feels the Merseysiders, his former club, will find it challenging to acquire the 19-year-old’s services.
“If it comes down to a bidding war then I think that’s a reason why Liverpool may miss out.
“We just have to wait and see what his value is next summer. £130 million is ridiculous money for a young player.”
Bellingham has attracted the eyes of some top sides like Chelsea, Manchester City and Real Madrid. However, United and Liverpool seem to be in pole position at the moment.
In the previous campaign, Bellingham made 44 appearances in all competitions for the German giants. He scored four goals and provided 14 assists for the Bundesliga outfit.
And the 19-year-old has started the new season in fine form as well. Dortmund have played 10 games in all competitions in the 2022/23 campaign and the England international has played every minute for his team.
Erik ten Hag has been afforded a few fresh faces in the team. The Red Devils have spent a considerable amount in the summer window of 2022.
Six new players came to the Manchester-based club in total. Among them, the Old Trafford side paid hefty amounts to land Lisandro Martinez, Casemiro and Antony.
