Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo bestowed with prestigious goalscorer award by Portugal
The Portuguese Football Federation honoured Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo with the best scorer award, via the Red Devils’ official website.
The 37-year-old received the accolade at the 2022 Gala Quinas de Ouro on Tuesday night. The United forward is his country’s top scorer, with 117 goals in 189 appearances.
Ronaldo is also the player with the most number of international goals. The Portuguese broke Iranian legend Ali Daei’s record of 109 goals for the Lions of Persia.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner scored his 110th and 111th goals against the Republic of Ireland. In the 89th and 91st minutes of a World Cup Qualifying match on 2 September 2021 when the 37-year-old led his side to a 2-1 victory.
Ronaldo captained the Portugal national team to glory at Euro 2016. It was the first major trophy A Selecao won in their history. The 37-year-old lifted another silverware with his national side, winning the UEFA Nations League in 2019.
Portugal are set to face the Czech Republic and Spain in the international break. A Selecao sits second in their Nations League group at the moment.
Ronaldo joins his national side after a disappointing start to the season under Erik ten Hag. The 37-year-old has found himself on the bench more often than not.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner has started just one game in the Premier League for United. He opened his account for the Red Devils in the 2-0 win against Sheriff Tiraspol in the Europa League.

Ronaldo ended the 2021/22 campaign as our top goalscorer. However, the 37-year-old has registered just one goal this season so far. Hopefully, the Portuguese is able to find his feet on national duty and comes back to his best for the Manchester-based club.
