Louis Saha feels the arrival of Christian Eriksen to Manchester United is a reason for the resurgence of Bruno Fernandes
Former Manchester United striker Louis Saha has credited Christian Eriksen for the resurgence of Bruno Fernandes. The Portuguese has been in fine form this season for the Red Devils.
Eriksen made his way through the Old Trafford doors earlier during the summer transfer window. And the Denmark international has been a key member of Erik ten Hag’s plans at the club.
Speaking to Comparebet.com (h/t The Sun), Saha, who played for United for four seasons, believes the arrival of Eriksen has freed up Fernades to express himself more in the final third.
“I think it adds directness. It’s a different formula and it allows Bruno Fernandes to be a bit more deadly going forward with more freedom.
“He’s a very, very smart player. He has great quality on the ball and dictates the rhythm of the team and the midfield with his passing range.”
The Portuguese had been going through a rough spell prior to this season. Fernandes was signed by the Red Devils in the winter window of the 2019/20 campaign from Sporting CP. And the 28-year-old had an immediate impact in Manchester.
Fernandes had a brilliant season-and-a-half. However, the previous campaign saw the Portuguese struggle for form. The 28-year-old looked frustrated on the pitch.
However, under Ten Hag, Fernandes has found his feet once again. While the first two games for United were a struggle, since then, the team have done well to bounce back. And the attacking midfielder has contributed to some crucial goals.
Since the Liverpool game, United have gone on a four-game winning streak in the Premier League. The Portuguese scored the only goal against Southampton and provided a sumptuous assist in the Arsenal fixture.
Eriksen has started every game under Ten Hag. The Danish national has made a position in the XI his own, playing as a box-to-box midfielder.
