Manchester United vs Crystal Palace postponed as Premier League pay tribute to Queen Elizabeth II

This weekend’s Premier League fixtures, including Manchester United vs Crystal Palace, have been postponed in light of the passing of Queen Elizabeth II on 8 September.

The Red Devils were going to visit Selhurst Park on 11 September. However, the PL have confirmed in a statement on Twitter that the upcoming matchday will no longer take place. Over the course of the week, plans around other game weeks will also be revealed.

The 2022/23 season has already seen the football calendar get congested due to the World Cup in Qatar. As a result, clubs in European competitions have to play a lot of midweek fixtures until November.

This postponement will evidently lead to a further pileup of games. United are competing in the Europa League and are supposed to face Sheriff Tiraspol on 15 September. It will be interesting to see whether the club decides to reschedule the UEL game as well.

Our clash against Real Sociedad yesterday night went ahead as planned despite news of Her Majesty The Queen’s death being public knowledge before kick-off.

United in fine form

United lost to Sociedad in the first UEL group match of the 2022/23 campaign. However, we are coming off of a four-game win streak in the league.

Erik ten Hag’s reign in the Old Trafford dugout did not get off to the best of starts. The Red Devils lost the first two fixtures in the PL against Brighton & Hove Albion and Brentford. We sat in last place with zero points.

However, since then, the team have managed to turn things around. First, United beat Liverpool in the North West Derby to secure our first points of the season. The Manchester-based club then got the better of Southampton and Leicester City.

The momentum certainly helped us. Finally, we got over the line against Arsenal. The Gunners had gotten off to a perfect start before visiting Old Trafford. However, the Red Devils successfully handed the North London side their first loss of the 2022/23 campaign.

It remains to be seen whether we are able to continue our fine form when the fixtures are eventually allowed to resume.
