Phil Jones, Axel Tuanzebe and Brandon Williams unlikely to leave Manchester United this transfer window
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has suggested that there is a possibility that Phil Jones, Axel Tuanzebe and Brandon Williams will not leave the club this transfer window.
The defenders seem to be out-of-favour at United. The Dutch manager evidently does not count on the trio going into the 2022/23 campaign.
Speaking on Jones, Tuanzebe and Williams via Manchester Evening News, Ten Hag is of the opinion that the trio are going to stay in Manchester for the time being. Having been on the sidelines, the Dutch manager feels it’s challenging for the defenders to be sold in the summer transfer window.
“It can be but we are talking about players who are not available so I don’t think they will go out in this window.”
United have struggled to offload players this summer. Andreas Pereira is the only one the Red Devils have been able to permanently part ways with. The 26-year-old joined Fulham.
The rest of the departures this summer have been those who’ve run down their contracts or players who’ve been sent on loan. Paul Pogba, Edinson Cavani, Nemanja Matic, Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata left the club at the end of the previous campaign.
The likes of Dean Henderson, Alex Telles and Eric Bailly, amongst other youngsters, have temporarily moved to other clubs.
The last couple of years have seen Jones struggle with injuries. The 30-year-old started just two games last season. The former Blackburn Rovers star hasn’t trained with the squad during pre-season.
Tuanzebe also missed most of the Red Devils’ tour to Asia and Australia. The 24-year-old was sidelined after the first friendly. Williams has also been out injured for almost two months.
