Injury News: Erik ten Hag gives Casemiro update; rules out Manchester United forward Anthony Martial for Southampton tie

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has given an injury update on Anthony Martial and Casemiro for the Premier League game against Southampton on Saturday, August 27, at St. Mary’s Stadium.

Casemiro is fit and ready to go for Man United after sealing a £70million transfer from Real Madrid earlier this summer. Ten Hag said ahead of the game at a press conference (h/t official Man United club website):

“Casemiro is fit. He did all of the training sessions. He trained first individually and, the last days, he trained with the team.”

Martial, however, seems to have done some damage to himself in the club’s 2-1 win against Liverpool at Old Trafford. He assisted Marcus Rashford’s second goal against the Reds which made the scoreline 2-0.

Ten Hag claims the France international will not be available to feature against the Saints. He continued:

“Anthony Martial is not fit. He came out with a problem on his Achilles, [coming] out of the game, so we have to wait. I cannot tell a prognosis how long it takes but, of course, I hope that he will be available for the next game [Leicester].”

We don’t have a shortage of attackers right now, especially since Cristiano Ronaldo is still at the club. Anthony Elanga, Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho can all expect to feature in the matchday squad tomorrow.

We have saved our face after a horrific start to the season by beating Jurgen Klopp’s side. But all that would mean nothing if we lose momentum and fail to beat Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side.

It could be too early to see Casemiro start for us, but we can’t put it past the former Ajax manager to select the best XI on the day. The Brazil international makes the cut if that is the case, given his ability and experience.
