Manchester United learn UEFA Europa League group for 2022/23 season
Manchester United have been drawn in Group E with Real Sociedad, Sheriff Tiraspol, and Omonia for the 2022/23 UEFA Europa League season, as confirmed by the club’s official Twitter account.
The Red Devils failed to qualify for the UEFA Champions League last season after finishing sixth in the league. However, they managed to avoid UEFA Europa Conference League football, which is one tier below the UEL in terms of UEFA’s club competitions.
United were eliminated in the Champions League round of 16 at the hands of Atletico Madrid last season. Before that, they made the final of the Europa League under manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
However, they lost to Villarreal in the final on penalties. They would look to go one step further this time, with Cristiano Ronaldo all set to play in his first ever UEL campaign if he stays at Old Trafford this summer.
United get an easy Europa League group
Real Sociedad are a good side who would want to go as far as they could in the UEL this season under manager Imanol Alguacil Barrenetxea. Just like United, they finished sixth in their league last season.
Moldovan club Sheriff Tiraspol secured a massive 2-1 away win against Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League last season and beat Shakhtar Donetsk in their opening group game as well.
They can’t be taken lightly, having won their league title last campaign and leading the current league table after four games.

Last but not least, United will go up against Cyprus-based Omonia F.C. United are expected to qualify as group winners but then again, things aren’t that straightforward in football.
Matchday 1 of the group stages begins on 8 September 2022 and the final will be held at Budapest’s Puskas Arena on May 31, 2023.
