Erik ten Hag provides injury updates on Manchester United duo Martial and Lindelof ahead of Liverpool clash
Speaking to MUTV ahead of Manchester United’s clash against Liverpool as quoted by Manchester Evening News, Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag confirmed that Anthony Martial could be involved against the Reds but ruled out Victor Lindelof.
Martial has a great start to life under Erik ten Hag, impressing in the pre-season games. He was expected to start off the season as the Red Devils’ main striker but he got injured at just the wrong time.
Lindelof, however, is yet to return to training though and he is definitely going to miss the very important clash against Liverpool. However, it is highly unlikely that the Swede would have started even if fit.
Lindelof finds himself behind in the pecking order with Harry Maguire, Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane all ahead of him. Hence, his injury shouldn’t really affect Ten Hag’s plans for the match.
However, he is set to have a welcome boost considering the fact that Anthony Martial is back. Man United go into the game desperate for a win and if the Frenchman can recapture his pre-season form, it will be a good thing for the Dutch manager.
Speaking about the two players, the Dutch tactician said
“Victor has not returned to the training pitch, but the good news is that Anthony Martial is back in training with the team,
Erik ten Hag’s start to life as a Man United manager has been far from ideal. He has lost both Premier League games to date and his team has managed to score just one goal till now whilst shipping six in the process.
Martial is not expected to start the game against the Reds but he could be crucial coming off the bench. He will be hoping to show Ten Hag that he is the man for the job and that the Dutch tactician can trust him for the season.
