AS Monaco youngster Vanderson being prioritised by Manchester United for right-back spot
Manchester United are ‘prioritising’ the signing of AS Monaco right-back Vanderson, according to Sport (h/t Express). The Red Devils have ‘accelerated contacts’ for the 21-year-old Brazilian.
Erik ten Hag is seemingly keen on signing Sergino Dest from Barcelona this summer. The Dutch manager was the one who gave the USMNT star his debut at Ajax. However, some people within the United hierarchy are keen on Vanderson.
The Manchester-based club need a new right-back in the squad, with Brandon Williams and Aaron Wan-Bissaka not fancied. The former Crystal Palace star has been given permission to find a new club this summer.
United will have to contend with the Blaugrana for the signing of the Brazilian right-back. The Catalans are also interested in securing the Monaco star’s signature. As of yet, though, the Ligue 1 side haven’t received a bid for their player.
Ten Hag has evidently preferred Diogo Dalot in the back four ahead of other options in the side. The Portuguese cemented his place in the United XI when Ralf Rangnick was appointed interim boss.
Wan-Bissaka was the chosen one under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The Norwegian manager favoured the England U21 international in his side.
However, things changed for the 24-year-old when Ole parted ways with the Red Devils in the middle of last season. Wan-Bissaka is a decent defender but leaves a lot to be desired in the final third of the pitch. Thus, Rangnick chose Dalot to start regularly for him.
The Portuguese has started United’s first two games of the 2022/23 campaign. However, fans haven’t been convinced by his outings. Dalot has looked shaky at the back.
