Vanderson responds to Manchester United transfer links
The Mirror reports that Vanderson, the AS Monaco defender, fielded questions about Manchester United’s interest in securing his services. During the summer transfer window, the Brazilian was among the players linked with a move to Old Trafford.
The 22-year-old right-back was in fine form for Monaco last season, making 39 appearances for the French club. Vanderson contributed one goal and five assists for his team in attack last season.
At the same time, his defensive abilities combined with his energy, pressing ability, and aggressiveness won him plenty of praise. The performances at Monaco earned him a debut for Brazil in June. Surely, the only way is up.
Vanderson, currently with the Seleção, discussed his club’s future, stating:
“It’s great to hear Barcelona and United ‘love’ you. It’s fantastic to know your name is being mentioned by the big clubs. But now I’m focused only on Monaco.”
Vanderson faced knee problems last season which kept him out of action for four weeks. However, the Brazilian’s form wasn’t halted once he returned from the injury.
The Red Devil’s manager Erik ten Hag currently deploys Aaron Wan-Bissaka as his preferred right-back option, ahead of Diogo Dalot. Vanderson will face serious competition for the starting line-up if United decides to bring the Brazilian to Old Trafford.
Man United have struggled with inconsistency during the start of the current season, finding themselves in 11th position ahead of the international break. Their struggle was down to the vulnerabilities they had shown in the other areas within the team.
The Old Trafford club would want to prioritise addressing this other vulnerable position before considering adding depth to the positions that are currently secure.
United is a club that should be competing for every trophy, which requires depth in the squad. Depending on the circumstances, United can return for the Brazilian when the transfer window opens next.
