Borussia Dortmund have rejected the opportunity to sign Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo
Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo was offered to Borussia Dortmund by superagent Jorge Mendes. However, the Bundesliga giants have rejected the opportunity to sign the 37-year-old, according to BILD (h/t Mirror).
Ronaldo has been angling for a move away from the Red Devils all summer. The 37-year-old eyes Champions League football, which United can’t offer this season.
While Ronaldo seemingly wants a move to the German outfit, Dortmund are said to be reluctant to pursue the Portugal international’s signature. His hefty wages are a concern for BVB.
United are seemingly short on attacking options. Ronaldo ended the previous campaign as our highest goalscorer. And if the Portuguese is to leave Manchester, the Red Devils would have a hard time replacing him. Anthony Martial is the only other recognised number nine in the squad.
Last season, none of our forwards contributed enough to the team apart from Ronaldo. The number seven scored 24 goals and Bruno Fernandes put 10 goals in the back of the net in all competitions.
The likes of Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sacho had five goals each. The English duo’s performances weren’t the best either. They both struggled to make an impact over the course of the season despite having their moments here and there.
The United academy product had one of his worst seasons in a red shirt. On the other hand, Sancho failed to replicate the form he had shown in Germany with Dortmund.
Ronaldo featured in both the games that Erik ten Hag has taken charge of in the new campaign. However, United’s performances have been devoid of quality. We’ve been shaky in defence and haven’t managed to create enough chances.
