Manchester United are keen on bringing in Frenkie de Jong and Adrien Rabiot this summer
According to The Express, Manchester United remain adamant that they want to sign both Frenkie de Jong and France international Adrien Rabiot in the coming weeks.
The Red Devils began the Erik ten Hag era with a 2-1 loss at home against Brighton and Hove Albion. The midfield struggled to impose themselves in the game and was second best for large periods in the clash.
The Manchester outfit has so far brought in Tyrell Malacia, Christian Eriksen and Lisandro Martinez. All three played a part in the season opener but the problems from seasons gone by still remain.
The transfer saga of the summer has been Man United’s pursuit of de Jong. The 25-year-old Dutch international is in a fix given his situation at Barcelona but a move to Old Trafford is not getting any closer.
The Red Devils have not thrown in the towel yet and remain keen on signing the 25-year-old. He is ten Hag’s top target this summer and United are willing to splash the cash to get him. We also face competition from Chelsea who are making their own move for the player.
Man United are calm regarding the situation and it remains to be seen how developments occur in the coming weeks. It will however not impact the pursuit of Rabiot, who is also being looked at.
The club’s pursuit of both players is different and if all goes according to plan, ten Hag will have two excellent players at his disposal. How this pans out remains to be seen.
While it is good to see that the club realise a midfielder is essential, it begs the question of why we have not gotten a deal over the line earlier. With the season now already on, any deal smells of panic and there is a chance that we need to overpay to land our targets.
