Manchester United have PSV Eindhoven winger Cody Gakpo on their radar
Manchester United and Erik ten Hag have identified PSV Eindhoven forward Cody Gakpo as a possible addition to the squad this transfer window, according to The Mirror.
Other Premier League clubs like Arsenal and Leeds have also been linked with a move for the 23-year-old. The Holland international earned the Footballer of the Year award for his performances in the Eredivisie last season.
PSV have placed a price tag of around £40 million on their star. But the Dutch side are said to be unwilling to sell Gakpo unless they fail to make it to the Champions League via the play-offs.
Amidst the difficulty in securing the signing of Ajax forward Antony, it seems United have turned their attention to other targets. And the 23-year-old who plays under Ruud van Nistelrooy’s management currently is a name on the Red Devils’ list.
Gakpo a superstar in the making?
Having come up through the youth teams at PSV, Gakpo has become a key member of the Eredivisie club over the years. In the previous campaign, the 23-year-old featured 46 times for the Dutch side, scoring 21 goals and making 15 assists.
Gakpo plays out wide on the left on most occasions. But the winger has also been deployed in other forward positions at PSV. This versatility will be a boon for the Red Devils.
United currently have a few options to choose from to play on the wings. Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho are the two experienced players in the side. But last season was one where both failed to make an impact and take their chances.
Our attack faltered last season and only Cristiano Ronaldo came out of the campaign with any credit to his name. United have a few youngsters as well in the squad capable of playing out on the wings but Gakpo is further along his development.

Gakpo is a talented prospect who should now consider playing at a much higher level. The Premier League certainly provides that opportunity. It remains to be seen whether United pursue the Dutch national this summer.
