Transfer News: Manchester United submit an improved £50 million bid for Lisandro Martinez
According to Mike Verweij (h/t Manchester Evening News), Manchester United have submitted an improved £50 million bid for talented Ajax defender Lisandro Martinez.
Man United’s interest in Martinez is absolutely no new news. This transfer saga has been going on for a few weeks now and the Red Devils saw their opening bid turned down by the Eredivisie champions.
The talented centre-back is not short of suitors and Man United are just one of the clubs in the running. Arsenal are also very interested in the player but they are also yet to agree to a deal with the Dutch giants.
After seeing their initial bid for the Argentinian defender turned down, Man United have come back with an improved £50 million bid which might make Ajax consider selling their talented defender this summer.
It is no secret that Lisandro Martinez wants to leave Ajax this season. The 24-year-old defender wants to ply his trade in the Premier League and it makes sense considering that this is a World cup year and Martinez would want to play for his national team.
Although he is on the fringes of the national team almost always, Martinez is yet to crack the code at the International level, struggling to break the Nicolas Otamendi – Christian Romero partnership that has been successful for Lionel Scaloni’s side.
Coming to the Premier League and putting in impressive performances for a club of Man United’s stature might be just what it takes to change Scaloni’s mind and give him a starting role at the World cup.
Martinez will undoubtedly be a great signing for Man United. He can play in multiple positions including left-back and defensive midfield and hence, he would be of great utility to Erik ten Hag.
