Ajax prepared to receive new proposals for Manchester United transfer target Lisandro Martinez
According to Daily Mail, Ajax are prepared to receive new proposals for Lisandro Martinez, who is a transfer target for Manchester United. He has also attracted interest from Arsenal, which has led to a stern transfer tussle between both English clubs at this moment.
The Dutch side has set an asking price of £43million for Martinez’s signature with Man United and the Gunners looking to finalise a move before the pre-season friendlies. The latter duo would be boosted by the fact that the centre-back has made up his mind to move to the Premier League.
That is because the Argentinian does not want to miss the opportunity of joining a PL club and wants to leave the Eredivisie club this summer as a result. Martinez has no plans to remain in the Netherlands and has asked Ajax to find a solution at the earliest.
Can Man Utd win this race?
Now that we have signed Tyrell Malacia and are nearing Christian Eriksen’s official announcement, the focus should be on completing moves for our other targets. Martinez falls into that category and can be considered one of the most important additions that are needed for the team.
After all, even if our struggles in defence were down to the unbalanced midfield caused by lack of control and a solid pivot option, we cannot let things as it is in the backline. That is because our starting options like Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof and Raphael Varane have not performed at their best last season.
We are also open to selling the likes of Phil Jones, Eric Bailly and Axel Tuanzebe in the summer transfer window. Their sales would leave us short-handed in the central defensive role, making Martinez’s signing a necessity ahead of the next season.
That being said, it remains to be seen if we can find common ground with the Amsterdam-based club this summer. They have already turned down our offer worth £35.3million in guaranteed fee, which rises to £38million including add-ons.
The North Londoners, on the other hand, have seen their two bids get rejected by Ajax, with the last one being £34million up front, with £38million being the total amount including bonuses. Hence, one could say we are leading due to the higher guaranteed amount offered as of now.

With Erik ten Hag being an added factor, we may just gain the edge on Mikel Arteta’s side should Martinez decide to choose his ex-boss to ensure a familiar face in the Man Utd dressing room. Whether the 24-year-old would move to Old Trafford or not would need to be seen as time passes on.
