Transfer News: Manchester United end interest in Wolves star Ruben Neves

According to The Sun, Manchester United have decided to end their interest in signing Wolves star Ruben Neves on a potential transfer move this summer. Their current stance is influenced by the high valuation put on his services, which is outside their range at this moment.

Man United, alongside Arsenal and Barcelona, had expressed their interest in facilitating a move for Neves in this transfer window. But all three suitors have been put off by Wolverhampton Wanderers’ £75million valuation, which has prompted all of them to stop pursuing the midfielder.

The Wanderers have succeeded in their attempt to keep hold of the Portuguese international as he seems set to remain with them beyond this summer. The Red Devils and their competitors believe that Neves should be rated around £45million, which caused them to go down this route.

Wise decision!

It is good to know that the Manchester hierarchy has no intention to be held ransom, even with their desperate need to improve the midfield this summer. After all, this stern stance would give us an edge during negotiations in the future, which should always have been the case.

We have already reached an agreement with Barca for Frenkie de Jong, which should address our issues to a great extent in midfield. While Neves is a great player indeed, he is arguably not at the same level as de Jong when it comes to experience and ability, which makes this decision a smart one from the management.

After all, de Jong would cost us only £56.14million in guaranteed money, although the fee could rise even further with add-ons. As such, it seems wise that our club is apparently not keen on being held hostage by Wolves.

Following the departures of Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic, Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard from midfield, we could have used someone like Neves to maintain quality and depth in our ranks. But signing the latter should not come at the expense of our spending ability to bolster other areas.

Furthermore, Erik ten Hag could perhaps use someone like James Garner for the time being, who is on the back of an excellent loan spell with Nottingham Forest. Losing out on Neves is undoubtedly a blow indeed, but we could still manage it without the 25-year-old as we have options to work with for now.
