Transfer News: Manchester United in line to make a bid for Ajax star Antony
According to journalist Ekrem Konur via UtdPlug on Twitter (h/t Manchester Evening News), Manchester United are assessing their options to place a bid on the table for Ajax star Antony in this summer transfer window. He is on the back of a breakout season in Amsterdam and has earned lots of plaudits for his displays.
Man United have plans to make at least one forward signing this summer to add to their depth ahead of the next season. The Brazilian international has been identified as one of the potential options, and he could potentially be on the way to Manchester if stars align in favour of it.
The Red Devils are looking to table a €50million proposal for the 22-year-old as they look to reunite him with Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford. It is still unclear whether the Dutch club or Antony would entertain the prospect of a potential transfer, so it remains to be seen what the response will be in the coming days.
Antony, perfect target for Man Utd?
The attacking department is not the only area that must be reinforced as we look to facilitate a rebuild under ten Hag this summer. As such, it would not be surprising to see us make just one addition in the frontline, looking at our restricted budget of around £120million before sales.
If that is the case, perhaps it would be best if the Manchester side would decide to target Antony this summer. After all, the right-hand side of our attack seriously lacks options at this moment, which is not ideal for squad composition if there are plans to turn things around under ten Hag in the next campaign.
Mason Greenwood’s indefinite suspension and Jadon Sancho’s conversion to the left-wing is the cause of the problems in that position. Marcus Rashford and Anthony Elanga deputised on the opposite side, but they have not fared well enough. We cannot blame them either, as that role does not play to their best strengths.
Hence, signing Antony, who is one of the upcoming superstars in world football, would greatly boost our ranks indeed. There are concerns over whether the South American can replicate the same form in the Premier League as he did in the Eredivisie.

The challenges of English football are quite difficult to overcome, but since Antony has adapted quite well to the national team setup, one can expect him to do the same in Carrington should he join us. That could be on the cards now that we have made an offer from our end.
The current proposal is quite reasonable for someone who possesses vast quality but is still an unproven talent to an extent. So we must not let ourselves be held ransom by the Eredivisie side by improving the bid to unreasonable terms.
