Transfer News: The agent of Marco Asensio is eyeing securing the Manchester United deal
According to transfer news from El Chiringuito journalist Marcos Benito, Jorge Mendes ‘wants to take’ Marco Asensio to Manchester United amid the Real Madrid contract stand-off.
Marco Asensio has become more regular for Real Madrid in recent seasons. The Spaniard has flourished under new manager Carlo Ancelotti and has helped the team win La Liga and the Champions League this term. Having scored 12 goals in 42 matches across all competitions, the Spanish forward ended the season being the third-highest scorer for his team.
Asensio is believed to be struggling to get a deserving offer from Real Madrid. Even though Los Blancos have offered him a new contract, it doesn’t include any wage improvement for the 26-year-old which has made his Real Madrid future uncertain.
Asensio changed his agent last April and now is represented by super-agent Jorge Mendes with whom United have maintained a great relationship over the years. Now it is believed that the Portuguese agent wants to engineer a transfer move to Old Trafford for his client.
How can Asensio help United?
The contract termination of Mason Greenwood has already hurt the depth of the United frontline. Now, Cavani is expected to leave the club in the summer window, which would create a significant void in the squad.
United might be better off with quality reinforcements and Asensio seems to be a great choice. The Spaniard has a lot of experience playing in the Spanish top division and has also featured in crucial Champions League matches, which makes his expertise valuable for United who would be eyeing to get back to the prestigious tournament next season.
Jorge Mendes engineered the reunion of Cristian Ronaldo with Manchester United last summer, which might have strengthened the relationship between the club and the super agent even more. As he is eyeing to use that good connection, our club should take full advantage of it.
