Benfica star Darwin Nunez is delighted to link up with Erik ten Hag at Manchester United
According to TalkSPORT (h/t Daily Mail Online), Benfica star Darwin Nunez would be delighted to join up with Erik ten Hag at Manchester United ahead of the next season. The striker enjoyed a splendid time in Portugal last season, which has earned him plaudits across Europe and is highly sought-after as a result.
Ten Hag is a keen admirer of Nunez’s qualities, which has resulted in the centre-forward being heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford in recent months. Man United are actively targeting him as of now as they plan to strengthen their attacking front with top-notch additions.
Now, the Red Devils have been given a major boost as Nunez is interested in the idea of helping the Red Devils reach their glory days once again. The attacker wants to be a part of the new project and is open to being a part of the squad under ten Hag in the future.
Nunez to join Man United shortly?
The Uruguayan international is one of the rising superstars in world football right now, having enjoyed a breakthrough season with the Portuguese side. His tally of 34 goals and four assists last season is quite impressive indeed, as he took just 41 matches across all competitions to garner that output.
We have been overly dependent on Cristiano Ronaldo for goals in the previous campaign, which is not ideal at all. After all, Ronaldo could have an off day, and the lack of adequate support could hamper us a lot as it did in the last season.
Edinson Cavani is also set to leave us on a free transfer this summer which adds to the list of reasons why we need to target Nunez. However, the Manchester club would be dealt with a massive dent in their budget as Benfica have slapped a £68million asking price for the Primeira Liga ace’s services.
That is quite expensive indeed, so the board must remain rigid in their stance and not be manhandled by Benfica this summer. Nunez just had a breakthrough season with them, and spending such a sum under the current circumstance is not feasible at all, even if the 22-year-old had a solid term before the last campaign as well.

Then again, we are expected to splash the cash this summer to support ten Hag, but that should not be a license to spend lavishly as other areas in the squad must be bolstered as well. It remains to be seen if we can complete the signing of Nunez with him also having a desire to play Champions League football moving forward.
Let’s hope that Nunez’s intention to help the Mancunians would supersede his desire to remain in the CL in the next season. Only time will tell whether that will be the case or not as we near the summer transfer window.
