Juventus looking to sign Manchester United star Nemanja Matic this summer

According to Italian news outlet Tuttosport [Print Edition] (h/t Manchester Evening News), Juventus are laying down the foundations to sign Manchester United star Nemanja Matic in this summer transfer window. He is set to depart Old Trafford at the end of this season, which makes it important for the English club to find adequate replacements.

Matic has already revealed that he will leave Man United after the current campaign. That means he will depart on a free transfer after opting against activating the one-year extension option in his contract. Juve are assessing the prospects of a potential move at this moment as they are open to signing him.

The Bianconeri want the Serb to deputise for them as they slowly integrate the youngsters into the senior team. However, they could also face competition from AS Roma since Jose Mourinho has been touted to target the midfielder this summer.

Need midfield reinforcements!

The Red Devils are seemingly set to lose the only natural defensive midfielder in our ranks this summer which is not ideal at all. That leaves us empty-handed ahead of the next season, which puts us in an even worse situation compared to how we started this campaign.

Midfield is an area that we should have bolstered last summer itself, but the Manchester club opted against doing so. We cannot afford not to address the issue any longer with Paul Pogba also expected to leave us for free at the end of this term.

Pogba has also been linked with Massimiliano Allegri’s side adding to the reason why we must prioritise the midfield in the coming windows. Fortunately, it is good to know that the Red Devils are looking to solve the problem as they look to back inbound Erik ten Hag.

Our current set of options fails to instil confidence within the majority of the fanbase going into the next season. What’s more, the lack of a natural pivot option would ruin the squad composition, which could further hamper us as it has happened this term. With Matic set to leave, the club must find adequate replacements and discuss the matter with Ten Hag before taking the next step.

After all, it would be best to sign players who would suit the Ajax manager and the style he wants to impose on the club. Replacing Matic would be a hard task as he has often helped to maintain the balance despite being well past his prime years. As such, time must be given to look for additions in the summer transfer window.

James Garner has done well at Nottingham Forest but there is a difference between the PL and Championship in terms of quality. And it is not ideal to bank on an inexperienced youngster such as him when it comes to challenging for the PL crown- trying to win for the first time since 2013.

Donny van de Beek is on loan at Everton and could be one potential solution, but regardless of that, we need a number of quality midfielders that can slot in and out of the XI across various competitions. Moreover, the ex-Ajax man is more of a central midfielder and we would do well to bring in a natural defensive midfielder whose main focus is shielding our centre-backs.
