Nemanja Matic wants Paul Pogba to pay up for training ground offence
Speaking to the club’s official site, Manchester United star Nemanja Matic wants teammate Paul Pogba to shoulder half the fine incurred for a training ground offence.
One of the veterans in the squad, Matic is in charge of the fines pot, used to reprimand those who fail to adhere to the team’s code of conduct. A clear stickler for rules, Matic admits he fined himself for an offence in the lead-up to the Newcastle game.
“I have to say, just before the Newcastle game, I fined myself.”
Matic’s offence was that he was late for a meeting by a mere two seconds. However, despite the close call, it remains an infraction and the Serbian decided to take the high road by calling himself out.
“I was late for a meeting by two seconds, and the rules are the same for everyone. I had to fine myself, because they catch me.”
However, he has also named Pogba as being responsible for him being late. This means the Frenchman is also culpable and should foot half the fine.
“I was late to the meeting. In front of the room [where the meeting was taking place] I was talking to Paul, so I will ask him to pay 50 per cent of my fine.”
But the Serbian is unsure if Pogba will agree to this proposal. It makes us wonder exactly how much the fine really was.
Such incidents are common at Premier League clubs and the collection money goes towards funding the players’ end of the season party. (h/t The Mirror)
Matic also went on to reveal that skipper Harry Maguire was fined for an infraction.
