Manchester United confirm forward Cristiano Ronaldo will miss game vs Liverpool tonight following family heartbreak

As confirmed on the club’s official website, Manchester United have released a statement announcing that forward Cristiano Ronaldo will miss the game against Liverpool tonight, following the player’s announcement about the death of his baby boy.

The Portugal international took to Twitter to reveal that he and his family had lost their newborn boy, saying it was the greatest pain that any parent could feel, while giving an update about the birth of his baby girl, saying she was giving them strength to get through this moment.

United, and the rest of the footballing world, sent their messages of love and support to the 37-year-old and his family on social media – including his former clubs, teammates, and rival Premier League sides.

The player was last seen scoring a hat-trick for the Red Devils over the weekend, helping to down Norwich City at home to push the team up to fifth place in the league table. They now lie three points behind fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur in their attempts to claim a top-four spot by the end of the season.

The Manchester side has responded to this tragic news suffered by the Portugal skipper, saying that family is more important than everything and that the No. 7 was supporting his loved ones during this immensely difficult time.

Will Ronaldo play vs Liverpool today?

The club confirmed that he would not feature in tonight’s game against Liverpool at Anfield, reiterating the family’s request for privacy. The Old Trafford side also sent a message of support to the club legend, saying they are thinking of him and sending strength to his family.

“Family is more important than everything and Ronaldo is supporting his loved ones at this immensely difficult time. As such, we can confirm that he will not feature in the match against Liverpool at Anfield on Tuesday evening and we underline the family’s request for privacy.”

This is certainly devastating news to hear about what Ronaldo and his family are going through. It is never easy losing a loved one, and it is even more heartbreaking to hear about the death of someone so young.

We can only wish the player and his close one strength to get through this difficult time and hope that they are able to recover from this tragedy. The family’s privacy needs to be respected at this moment and given enough space to heal.

More Manchester United News

After the highs of enjoying his hat-trick just a few days ago, United fans will certainly be feeling the lows hearing the news about his baby boy passing away. Hopefully, we are able to see the forward return to the pitch once again in the remaining weeks of the campaign- but it is important to give him as much time as he needs with his family.

For tonight, all eyes will be on the teamsheet to see who would replace Ronaldo in the starting lineup. Interim manager Ralf Rangnick has in the past used Bruno Fernandes in a false-nine position in place, which has not worked out well for us. Another alternative would be to play Marcus Rashford down the middle, despite the Englishman not having started a game as a striker for us in a while.
